Arts of the Dance Studio History
Marlene von Reuter Harwas opened a dance studio in Vineland, New Jersey in September of 1961. Over thirty-five years later, The Arts of the Dance and Music Centre still flourishes, develops and grows. Miss Von, as her students lovingly call her, began ballet, tap, acrobatic, ballromm and kinder classes for 35 students. The studio moved from Elmer Street in center city to Chestnut Avenue in December of 1965, where it still operates today.
In 1962 baton twirling and Pointe were added to the curriculum. Eventually jazz and Hawaiian were also offered. A musical program was also added with Carol Slater as the director. From 1983 to 1992, a studio in Bridgeton was opened.
In 1977 a studio in Millville was also opened and recently closed in 1998 so that the Vineland studio's development could be focused on and expanded. Presently there are over 200 students enrolled in The Arts of the Dance Centre. The dancers perform annual recitals each year. Ballet, Pointe, tap, jazz, acro, ballroom, Hawaiian and Kinder classes are still offered.
The community of Vineland recognizes the benfits the studio brings to the area. One of the nicest aspects about it is parents can send their children to where they once danced and know their children will receive training, guidance and above all else, love.
From present and past students, parents and children, teachers and staff--Thank Yot Miss Von for more than 35 years of excellence.
